E houve uma política econômica nacional-populista?

Carlos Lessa, José Luis Fiori

Resumo

This paper tries to reproduce the main movements and inflexions of the
economy In the 2nd Vargas government. In this period the coordinates of the
Brazilian industrial development were defined, through the intense conflicts which
led the President to suicide. In special, this article attempts to identify the tensions
that existed in that moment between the orthodox-conservative command of the
macroeconomic policy itself and the implementation of the industrial development
policy. This tension led Vargas' government, as well as its sucessors, to an exotic mix
of heterodoxy and economic conservatism which become developmentism and not
a nationalist or popular option of Vargas.
