A "pequena produção" manufatureira: uma interpretação à luz de uma nova problemática de desenvolvimento

Resumo

This study suggests a new perspective for the understanding of the dynamics of
the small manufacturing production connected to the leather industry in the Valley
of the Sinos River, in Rio Grande do Sul. That industrialization presents strong
territorial bonds, giving an important role to small production, with a large network
of local interdependence relationships. This paper's objetive is to present new
sources for the theoretical renewal of the study of such localized small-scale production.
In the first part the paradygms of a new framework for the understanding of
development are described. Then, in relationship with those paradygms, are presented
more recent theories and notions that interact with historical and socio-cultural
determinations in the configuration of local economic phenomena. In the
second part some of the main characteristics of small-scale production in the valley
are described, in order to question the validity and utility of those new approaches
for an improved understanding of that local small-scale production.
