Mercosul como opção estratégica de integração: notas sobre a teoria da integração e estratégias de desenvolvimento

Resumo

This article intends to discuss the Mercosul as an alternative for the
South Cone economic integration. It holds that the theories of economic
integration, which were developed on the 1950's, cannot explain the recent
processes of economic integration. The core of the recent integration
processes is that they set up an integrated economic space, that
promote domestic enterpreneurship, but also attract investment of large
transnational corporations. That is, the objective of the new model of
economic integration is not only the promotion of international trade.
Economic integration is basically a toll for a regional strategy of economic
development.
