O programa de integração Argentina - Brasil e as tendências atuais da economia mundial

José Tavares de Araujo Júnior

Resumo

This article studies the efforts towards the promotion of a process of economic
integration between Brazil and Argentina within the framework of the ongoing world
economic trends. In the introduction the author says that brazilian industrialization
was characterized by a continued elimination of linkages with other latin-american
economies, and that the attempts of integration with Argentina constitute an effort
towards the reversal of that trend. Part two studies the growth of brazilian industry,
based on the protection against foreign competition, that led to a continued fall of the
import coefficients of the brazilian economy, reducing the volume of trade with other
countries of Latin America. The third section analyses the contents of the several trade
agreements signed by the two countries since July 1986, emphasizing their essentially
pragmatic characteristics.
The article's conclusions are that Brazil and Argentina must coordinate their
economic policies, and that the legal protection of many brazilian industries against
foreign competition must be abandoned, in order to enable the two countries to advance
towards an effective economic integration.
