Hoyêdo Nunes Lins

Resumo

Spatial mobility of capital is a central issue related with economic integration
of nation-states. That is the broad subject of this paper, which, concentrating
chiefly on Mercosul, is concerned with questions of regional distribution
of private investments and geographical organization of industrial
production. Firstly, the article presents some elements of discussion about
territorial impacts of market liberalization. Next, it looks into the importance
attributed to manufacturing location in actual processes of integration, specially
in Westem Europe. Thirdly, it turns to Mercosul, considering on the
one hand capital movements and their effects in terms of spatial structures
of production, mainly with respect to the automobile industry, and, on the
other hand, the perspectives of interregional relations in the whole area of
integration. At the final section, it is stressed the need of integrated action
regarding both industrial and regional policy at the level of the economic
bloc.
